Just finished reading 1984 by George Orwell. It was better than I expected, and that's saying something because I had high expectations. For anyone who doesn't know from the title, it's the book where the sentence "Big Brother is watching" comes from.

the word "Solipsism", it's used for the philosophical idea that only one's mind is sure to exist. This is a concept I've often brought up and pondered about, but I didn't know the word and the existing theories. Reading up the wikipedia article was fun. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solipsis

First commute after holidays. I was so focused on reading that I almost get locked up in the bus because everyone got off on the last stop and I didn't notice. I guess I'll have to get used to interruptions again.

Yesterday I released a new version of my Solid task manager with some new features, check it out github.com/NoelDeMartin/solid-

I just noticed one of the sneakiest design decisions from Twitter. All tweets you see from people you don't follow have this message at the top explaining why you're seeing them: "retweeted by X" or "liked by X". Except promoted tweets, those have the message on the bottom.

@dajbelshaw In case you're interested in my opinion, I think focusing on web technologies is the answer :). Nowadays it's not that difficult to create a good experience in all devices using web technologies. If there's a need for dedicated mobile apps, there are choices to package web apps. Of course it comes at a cost in terms of UX, but I think it's better to pay this cost than cut some people off.

@dajbelshaw Hey, looking at your tweet about DIY I thought a question for an upcomming microcast :D. What's your opinion on creating inclusive software? I know some companies choose what to support based on the demographics in their analytics, but that's just reinforcing existing bias. One example is supporting screen-readers, there'll never be many users with those needs. Also, MoodleNet has a big audience, but how would you balance this at a startup's early stage?

It'd be awesome to learn how ants do scouting and organize to find food. It's incredible how they manage to form a stream of workers within days once there is any food residue. But I never notice any scouting, so they must be quite efficient at searching or following scent.

I 100% agree with this. I've always thought that developers must be within the UX feedback loop, since we're the ones writing the code. The less communication layers between users and the ones writing the software, the better.

I found this podcast episode really interesting! And I have to say, I was gladly surprised for once by Facebook and Google. Sadly, not so much by Amazon and others.

Well, that didn't last :/ Frankly, I still prefer the supported model for many reasons, but I guess I'm in the minority tim.blog/2019/07/11/why-im-sto

Some days ago I found a package to finally replace momentjs (it weights too much): github.com/iamkun/dayjs Worked like a charm so far!

Ok, I just realized github issues and PRs cannot have the same number because their ids are generated from each other (if you create an issue and then a PR they'll be issue #1 and PR #2) 🤯

devs, how would you fix this? The animation is triggered with CSS when the content disappears, but that's not nice. I've created a component I'm calling "Freezable": gist.github.com/NoelDeMartin/7

I've started backing Tim Ferriss with a monthly subscription and I couldn't be happier. I've been consuming his content for years, and I'm glad that many are starting to move away from the sponsorship/advertisement model.

@daibarnes @dajbelshaw listening to the TIDE podcast, I'm wondering about what you mentioned on interview practice. I agree that it's useful, but I dread interviews so much. Not the interviews, but all the "work" related with applying (looking for offers, learning about the company, preparing a cover letter/introduction email, going to the interview if it's in person, etc). What's your opinion on that? Or do you think it's ok to apply without any preparation if it's "just for practice"?
